Family Description


Jobs in this family provide direct supervision and treatment to at risk youth in community and/or institutional settings. The jobs in this family may perform security-related tasks to ensure a safe, secure environment within an institution and/or community setting and move youth through a treatment, transition, and aftercare plan.

Youth Services Worker I

First-level vocational Youth Services employee responsible for ensuring safety and security and providing treatment services to youth within a specific unit. Ensuring safety includes monitoring activity, behavior, and movement of youth both within a residential setting or while escorting youth off grounds, and performing physical counts.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 0-2 years of experience.

Youth Services Worker II

Second-level vocational Youth Services employee responsible for ensuring safety and security and providing treatment services to youth within a specific unit. Ensuring safety includes monitoring activity, behavior, and movement of youth both within a residential setting or while escorting youth off grounds, and performing physical counts. Employees also facilitate treatment programming to youth (e.g., youth advocate, group facilitation, create and/or deliver treatment activities, etc.). Employee may also assist in the educational program.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 2-4 years of experience.

Youth Services Specialist I

First-level professional position responsible for performing case management functions to determine needed services for stakeholders; developing, administering, and overseeing treatment plans for youth; and preparing documents for administrative review panels and courts; OR conducting a rehabilitative program of recreation and related outdoor skills activities for youth committed to custody.  May serve as a witness in court proceedings.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience. Must obtain Master’s Degree within 4 years of employment.

Youth Services Specialist II

Second-level professional position responsible for performing case management functions to determine needed services for stakeholders; developing, administering, and overseeing treatment plans for youth; and preparing documents for administrative review panels and courts; OR conducting a rehabilitative program of recreation and related outdoor skills activities for youth committed to custody. Employees at this level also conduct risk needs assessments, provide input into case plans, monitor progress and make recommendations, facilitate treatment groups, and co-facilitate therapy groups. May serve as a witness in court proceedings.

Typically requires a Master’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience.

Youth Services Team Lead

Supervisory position responsible for the overall management of an assigned unit. At this level, employees serve in a supervisory capacity and coordinate the direct treatment for a group of youth committed or assigned to the facility as well as all the activities involved in the daily operation of a living unit, including safety and security (e.g., delegation of case management responsibilities, coordination of youth appointments, point of contact for families and various other professionals). Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Master’s Degree and 3-4 years of youth treatment experience and/or relevant certification.

Youth Services Supervisor

Supervisory/managerial position accountable for setting the tone and vision and are responsible for the overall management of an assigned unit, including the supervision of both professional and vocational staff, or assisting a manager in a larger facility/program. At this level, employees both supervise and may perform the activities overseen, in addition to overseeing development and administering case plans, maintaining professional contacts for the unit, coordinating with the field (e.g., case management), managing a facility/program budget, and providing input into programming.

Typically requires a Master’s Degree, 5+ years of youth treatment experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
