Surveyor I

First-level surveying position accountable for data collection, routine data analysis (such as spatial data), quantity estimating, and compilation of data for legal documents. At this level, incumbents perform basic map creation and preparation of map exhibits. Surveying work performed at this level is well defined, for which there are precedent, templates and models and work is performed under work direction of a higher level professional individual contributor surveyor and/or supervision. This is the level of work typically performed by a Survey Intern.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying and 0-2 years of experience, and registration as a Land Surveyor Intern.

Surveyor II

Second-level surveying position accountable for data collection, data analysis (such as spatial data), quantity estimating, and the compilation of data for legal documents. At this level, incumbents perform basic to moderate complexity map creation and preparation of map exhibits. Surveying work performed at this level is well defined, for which there are precedent, templates and models and work is performed under work direction for a higher level professional individual contributor surveyor and/or supervision.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying and 0-2 years of experience. Licensed as a Land Surveyor.

Surveyor III

Third-level surveying position accountable for data collection, data analysis (such as spatial data), quantity estimating, and the compilation of data for legal documents. At this level, incumbents perform moderate to complex map creation and preparation of map exhibits. Employees at this level may function as lead workers and may direct the work of lower-level positions.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, 2-5 years of progressive experience.

Survey Team Lead

Seasoned level surveying position accountable for complex data analysis and review. Performs construction staking at a highly complex level. Incumbents at this level approve and stamp plats and reports. Performs project planning and budgeting and project management of highly complex surveying projects. Participates in the preparation of new rules and regulations and the revision to existing rules and regulations. Reviews proposed changes to statutes and the impact of such changes. Manages surveying databases and spatial data. Mentors lower level professional individual contributors. Serves as source of testimony and expert advice to professionals in other agencies, in court litigation and in professional hearings. Employees are also responsible for project control and eminent domain issues.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, 5-8 years of experience in Surveying.
