Public Safety Support Technician I

This is an entry-level vocational public safety support work.  An employee is responsible for  maintaining and entering driver's criminal information into a database; compiling and classifying information pertaining to violators; overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of department records; reviewing criminal records, data, and court related documents; and processing other related information concerning drivers of this state and other states that certifies completeness and conformity of established department policies and state laws.

Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.

Public Safety Support Technician II

This is journey-level vocational public safety support work. Employees work independently in conducting detailed research of confidential information, analyzing criminal history, and responding to technical questions; compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to appropriate personnel; responding to technical questions associated with confidential registries and information relating to driver's criminal history; coordinating the exchange of data and archived information; and preparing written reports. Incumbents conduct a detailed search of criminal records, license suspensions, and reinstatements; research commercial driver's license (CDL) related issues, crash investigations, and firearm credentials; and process licenses through a centralized system.

Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1-4 years of experience.

Public Safety Support Technician III

Advanced vocational public safety support work. An employee mentors and/or supervises lower level criminal records technicians. Work also involves conducting a detailed research and analysis of criminal history and confidential information; requesting and receiving classified data; compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to appropriate personnel and/or subordinates; maintaining a thorough knowledge of operations within the Department of Public Safety; maintaining considerable knowledge in theory and practice of office procedures; analyzing administrative problems; and exercising a high degree of independent judgment in the interpretation, application, and enforcement of statutes, rules, regulations, and policies.

Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 3-6 years of experience.

Public Safety Support Specialist I

Entry level professional public safety support work. An employee in this class functions in a training capacity and assists in conducting detailed research and analysis of confidential intelligence and investigative information relating to law enforcement operations and programs. Incumbents in this classification assist in requesting and receiving confidential intelligence and other information and are responsible for compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to appropriate personnel. Duties include assisting in coordinating the exchange of inter-state and intrastate information pertaining to criminal activity and syndicated criminal movement; preparing written reports requiring thorough analysis and evaluation of intelligence and investigative information; and researching patterns, structures, trends, and movements of the syndicated criminal groups.

Typically requires a  Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of experience.

Public Safety Support Specialist II

This is journey-level professional public safety support work. An employee in this class functions independently in a variety of criminal intelligence analyst duties. The job involves conducting detailed research and analysis of confidential intelligence and investigative information relating to law enforcement operations and programs. Incumbents in this classification request and receive confidential intelligence and other information and are responsible for compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to appropriate personnel. Duties include coordinating the exchange of inter-state and intrastate information pertaining to criminal activity and syndicated criminal movement; preparing written reports requiring thorough analysis and evaluation of intelligence and investigative information; and researching patterns, structures, trends, and movements of the syndicated criminal groups.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience.

Public Safety Support Specialist III

This is seasoned professional public safety support work. An employee mentors and/or supervises lower level intelligence analysts. The job involves many duties working independently in conducting detailed research and analysis of confidential intelligence and investigative information relating to law enforcement operations and programs. Incumbents in this classification request and receive confidential intelligence and other information and are responsible for compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to appropriate personnel. Duties include coordinating the exchange of inter-state and intrastate information pertaining to criminal activity and syndicated criminal movement; preparing written reports requiring thorough analysis and evaluation of intelligence and investigative information; and researching patterns, structures, trends, and movements of the syndicated criminal groups. Incumbents work under minimum supervision.

Public Safety Support Team Lead

First-level supervisory work over professional and vocational public safety support work. Incumbents are responsible for training and managing lower level dispatchers and communicators. At this level, incumbents exercise independent judgment and discretion in decision making and knowledge of procedures and protocol. May establish and/or implement policies for completion of the required tasks.  Trains all lower level staff on established procedures.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience.

Public Safety Support Supervisor

Management level work directing the Law Enforcement Training Academy, Support Services, Homeland Security, Correctional Intelligence, and the Office of Programs within the Department of Public Safety. This work includes responsibility for analyzing administrative and field problems and exercises a high degree of independent judgement. The work performed will involve formulating, directing, and controlling the operations of the assigned division through subordinate personnel. The incumbent will exercise final authority in establishing objectives, standards, and control measures for various programs within their program. The incumbent also determines policy in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7-8 years of relevant experience.

Public Safety Support Manager

Senior-level administrative work in which the incumbent serves as director of multiple divisions within the Department of Public Safety. Work involves developing, controlling, and directing operations through various highly specialized professional and technical staff. The incumbent exercises final authority in establishing objectives, standards, and control measures within the context of broad, general policy guidelines for large programs having significant statewide impact. The incumbent also determines major departmental policy and provides input into other significant agency operations.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7 or more years of relevant experience.
