Cultural Resources Technician I

First-level Historical Resources vocational position responsible for assisting in the receipt, classifying, recording and storage of historical artifacts and other items of historical significance. Assists higher-level staff, working under close supervision and performing clearly defined tasks using established methods and techniques.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency.

Cultural Resources Technician II

Second-level Historical Resources vocational position accountable for performing duties involving the receipt, classifying, recording and storage of historical artifacts and other items of historical significance. Assists in the preparation of statistical and other reports and materials for meetings and workshops. Works under supervision and performs tasks using established methods and general guidance.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 2 years of experience.

Cultural Resources Specialist I

First-level Historical Resources professional position accountable for performing functions in an assigned program area (archaeological, archival cataloging and preservation, historical sites, reference and patron services, records management, historic preservation, historical education and interpretation, exhibits, and collections management) and providing historic resources education and training.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience.

Cultural Resources Specialist II

Second-level Historical Resources professional position accountable for performing all functions in an assigned specialty area (archaeological, archival cataloging and preservation, historical sites, reference and patron services, records management, historic preservation, historical education and interpretation, exhibits, and collections management) and providing historic resources education, planning, and policy recommendations. Accountable for training volunteers and lower level staff.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience.

Cultural Resources Specialist III

Seasoned Historical Resources professional position accountable for performing more complex functions in an assigned specialty area (archaeological, archival cataloging and preservation, historical sites, reference and patron services, records management, historic preservation, historical education and interpretation, exhibits, and collections management) and providing historic resources, planning, and policy recommendations. Accountable for training and monitoring the work of volunteers and staff. May lead a team of lower level Historical Resources staff.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 4-7 years of experience.

Cultural Resources Team Lead

Supervisory Historical Resources position with responsibilities for planning and directing specific programs. The work is highly complex and specialized with a leadership performance level of historic resources administration in an assigned specialty area (archaeological, archival cataloging and preservation, historical sites, reference and patron services, records management, historic preservation, historical education and interpretation, exhibits, and collections management). Incumbents perform specialized work that involves highly complex historical resource work in an assigned specialty programmatic area and provide historic resources education, planning, and policy recommendations. Employee supervision at this level includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of experience.
