Family Description


Jobs in this family are responsible for the examination of depository and/or non-depository financial institutions regulated by the department. Minimum qualifications are outlined in MS Code 81-1-65 and include Bachelor’s degree; or three years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.

Bank Examiner I

This is an entry-level bank examination position accountable for examining and evaluating depository and/or non-depository financial institutions to verify solvency and ensure that operations are in compliance with state laws and regulations. At this level, employees participate in all phases of bank examinations.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree; or three years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.

Bank Examiner II

This is the journey level work in conducting examinations of depository and/or non-depository financial institutions regulated by the department for compliance with established laws. Duties include complete and accurate examination of a financial institution's solvency and/or compliance with laws, and the preparation and review of reports of the examination. The incumbent plans and directs examinations, supervises and trains subordinate examiners, and may perform joint bank examinations with representatives of federal banking agencies.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience; or three to six years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.

Bank Examiner III

This is the seasoned level work performing the duties of an examiner supervising large complex financial institutions and those exhibiting financial distress. Responsibilities for directing examinations, supervision and training of subordinate examiners, and the performance of joint examinations with representatives of federal or other state banking agencies are characteristic duties of positions in this classification. The incumbent exercises independent judgment and makes recommendations of profound importance to the supervised institutions. The incumbent contacts senior executive officers and members of boards of directors of financial institutions to formally discuss examination findings and make recommendations concerning unsound financial practices and violations of laws.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience; or four to six years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.

Bank Examination Team Lead

Supervisory and administrative work in field and/or office direction and coordination of the examinations performed by the Department. The work involves responsibility for complete and accurate examinations for solvency and/or compliance with applicable laws, the conducting of examinations, and the preparation and review of reports of the examination. Responsibilities for supervision and training of subordinate examiners. Incumbent in this class usually exercise independent judgement in decision making instances with little or no supervision. Also, assists Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner as needed in the planning, coordination, and scheduling of examinations and related staffing.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 6-8 years of relevant experience; or seven to nine years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.

Bank Examination Supervisor

Administrative work in which an incumbent serves as a Department of Banking and Consumer Finance Division Director. Incumbents exercise authority in establishing objectives, standards, policies, and control measures for programs, and directing division operations through subordinate personnel.  Internal and external contacts are made to provide and exchange information, coordinate activities, and provide assistance and guidance including interpretation of statutes governing the conduct of industries under the Department's statutory responsibility. Work is subject to infrequent review through conferences and reports by Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 7-9 years of relevant experience; or eight to ten years of relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years as a bank examiner, bank officer or employee, small loan company officer or employee, or other consumer finance officer or employee.
