Family Description


Jobs in this family oversee and perform specialized technical work that supports the needs of environmental/natural resource programs, scientific research, and the management and protection of natural resources. The jobs in this family perform field surveys, collect and analyze data and other vocational/technical duties in the field of environmental/natural resources.

Environmental/Natural Resources Technician I

First-level vocational position accountable for gathering routine, specific environmental/natural resources data and samples, and performing a variety of manual labor activities including heavy equipment operation, field work, and maintenance. Work at the level is controlled by protocols and/or specific assignments with clear instruction and is limited but specialized nature. Positions at this level also require knowledge of the basic characteristics of the data collected for proper data entry and proper manual labor requirements.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency.

Environmental/Natural Resources Technician II

Second-level vocational position accountable for gathering routine, specific environmental/natural resources data and samples, and performing a variety of manual labor activities including heavy equipment operation, field work, and maintenance. Work at the level is controlled by protocols and/or specific assignments with clear instruction and is limited but specialized nature. Positions at this level also require knowledge of the basic characteristics of the data collected for proper data entry and proper manual labor requirements.  May serve as a team leader.

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 1-2 years of experience.

Environmental/Natural Resources Technician III

Third-level environmental and/or geological position accountable for collecting specific/natural resources data and samples, assisting in the preparation of reports and disseminating information. This work involves the routine application of engineering principles or geological principles related to environmental activities with nominal decision making. Positions at this level also require knowledge of the basic characteristics of the data collected for proper data entry.

Requires completion of four (4) years (one hundred and twenty (120) semester hours) of college from an accredited college or university, thirty (30) hours of which shall have been in an engineering field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, including a minimum of 30 semester (45 quarter) hours in geological course work from an accredited four-year college or university.
