Correctional Program

Family Description


Jobs in this family provide administrative program oversight and coordination for various correctional programs.

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Maintain offender records.
  • Prepare reports on incarcerated offenders.
  • Coordinate the placement and transfer of offenders.
  • Provide individual and group instruction in the fundamentals and rules of various activities.

Correctional Program Worker I

Positions at this level do the day-to-day work of correctional programs and administrative support. Accountable for meeting with offenders upon their arrival, providing orientation, assigning jobs, and assigning beds. Positions at this level may also be accountable for maintaining offender records including fingerprints, photographs, case histories, sentence and judgment papers, legal forms, and releases.

Typically requires a High School equivalent and 0-2 years of relevant experience.

Correctional Program Worker II

First-level supervisory position over VICs that participates in and oversees the work of staff performing the day-to-day work of correctional programs and administrative support. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Typically requires a High school equivalent and 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Correctional Program Specialist I

First-level professional program position accountable for various correctional programs within the Department of Corrections. An incumbent in this classification may be responsible for disciplinary investigations, agricultural operations, surveillance, or a farm program.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience.

Correctional Program Specialist II

Journey level professional program position accountable for various correctional programs within the Department of Corrections. An incumbent in this classification may be responsible for disciplinary investigations, agricultural operations, surveillance, or a farm program. This job differs from the first level in that an incumbent in this classification handles more complex programs and may be required to perform internal affairs investigations.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Correctional Program Specialist III

Seasoned level professional program position accountable for various correctional programs within the Department of Corrections. An incumbent in this classification may be responsible for disciplinary investigations, agricultural operations, surveillance, or a farm program. This job differs from the first level in that an incumbent in this classification handles more complex programs and may be required to perform internal affairs investigations.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Correctional Program Team Lead

Correctional Program Supervisor is a professional supervisor of correctional case management positions or correctional programs. Employees at this level perform work in a specialized unit or area for offenders with special needs, or in coordinating the placement and transfer of offenders. Accountable for obtaining and verifying information from incarcerated adult offenders and evaluating offenders’ institutional adjustment, attitudes toward society, and offenders release plans. Employees work on complex cases; prepare reports on incarcerated offenders; and make recommendations for job assignments, facility transfers, and recommend disciplinary actions.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of relevant experience.

Pay Grade: MS10

 

Correctional Program Supervisor

Correctional Program Manager is a professional supervisor of correctional case management positions or correctional programs as well as Correctional Program Supervisors. Employees at this level manage either the Victim Compensation Fund, Health Services Administration, or Community Corrections.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 6 or more years of relevant experience.
