Behavioral Health Technician I 

First-level Behavioral Health professional work providing basic evidence-based/best practice therapeutic interventions (e.g., psychoeducational groups/classes, supportive activities, etc.) under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed/certified Behavioral Health professional. Such individuals also assist licensed/certified professionals with monitoring and collecting behavioral data, implementing therapeutic behavior support plans, and the provision of data/reports to supervisory personnel.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field (social work/services, education, criminal justice, etc.).

Behavioral Health Technician II 

Second-level Behavioral Health professional work in assessing, identifying, and treating mental health/behavioral concerns. Individuals in this classification provide direct services to individuals, including psychoeducation, individual therapy/supportive counseling, group therapy, assistance with treatment plan development, and behavior support services. Individuals in this classification provide services while under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed/certified Behavioral Health professional, including the administration of screening assessments of behavioral and emotional functioning, intelligence, achievement, and adaptive functioning.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field (social work/services, education, criminal justice, etc.) and 2-4 years of experience.

Behavioral Health Specialist I 

Third-level Behavioral Health professional work in assessing, identifying, and treating mental health/behavioral concerns. Individuals in this classification provide direct services to individuals, including psychoeducation, individual therapy/supportive counseling, group therapy, assistance with treatment plan development, and behavior support services. Individuals in this classification provide services while under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed/certified Behavioral Health professional, including the administration of screening assessments of behavioral and emotional functioning, intelligence, achievement, and adaptive functioning. Incumbents may function as mentors and direct the work of employees in less advanced classifications.

Requires Master’s Degree in Psychology or a related field of study acceptable to the hiring agency and may require full licensure or certification (LPC, LMFT, LM/CSW, L/CMHT, L/CIDDT, L/CAT).

Behavioral Health Specialist II 

Fourth-level professional work which involves providing psychotherapeutic interventions (individual, group, family therapy), developing intervention strategies, ensuring the implementation of the strategies, and initiating treatment plans. Under the direct supervision and oversight of an appropriately licensed or certified Behavioral Health professional, individuals in this classification also perform screening assessments of behavioral and emotional functioning, intelligence, achievement, and adaptive functioning. May serve in supervisory roles as based on organizational/facility guidelines, and may provide direct supervision to employees in less advanced classifications.

Requires Master's Degree in Psychology or a related field acceptable to the hiring agency, a minimum of 5-6 years of experience, and full licensure or certification (LPC, LMFT, LM/CSW, L/CMHT, L/CIDDT, L/CAT).

Psychologist I 

Fifth-level Behavioral Health professional who provides advanced clinical and behavioral services which may include assessment of behavioral health concerns, individual and group therapy, program development/implementation, and treatment outcome measurement. Under the direct supervision and oversight of an appropriately licensed or certified Behavioral Health professional, individuals in this classification also perform screening assessments of behavioral and emotional functioning, intelligence, achievement, and adaptive functioning. Incumbents in this classification are responsible for working closely with other professional disciplines such as psychiatry and social services, and they may also serve as members of, or consultants to, interdisciplinary teams. May serve in supervisory roles as based on organizational/facility guidelines, and may provide direct supervision to employees in less advanced classifications.

Requires a Doctorate in Psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) or a related field acceptable to the hiring agency (e.g., DPC), licensure or certification at the Master’s level (LPC, LMFT, LM/CSW, L/CMHT, L/CIDDT, L/CAT), and a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral experience.

Psychologist II 

Sixth-level Behavioral Health professional who functions primarily in a clinical role or research role.  Professionals at this level provide advanced clinical services which may include assessment of behavioral health concerns, psychological evaluation, individual and group psychotherapy, or supervisory oversight of employees and/or unit/department functions in the provision of behavioral health services. Professionals in this classification may serve as members of, or consultants to, interdisciplinary teams, and they may also serve on hospital/facility committees. Clinical professionals may also act in secondary supervisory roles providing guidance and oversight of employees in less advanced classifications.

Requires licensure as a psychologist in Mississippi and up to 3 years of experience as a licensed psychologist.

Behavioral Health Team Lead 

Seventh-level Behavioral Health professional who functions primarily in an advanced clinical and/or supervisory role. Professionals at this level guide program development, the selection and implementation of Evidence Based Practices, and provide supervision and oversight of less advanced behavioral health employees (hiring, training, assignments). Administers, scores, and interprets advanced psychological assessments (personality, intellectual, neuropsychological, etc.) for clinical diagnostics and treatment plan formulation. Individuals in this classification also provide direct services including individual therapy, group therapy, and provision of behavior support services. Individuals in this classification may also serve on hospital/facility committees.

Requires licensure as a psychologist in Mississippi and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a licensed psychologist.

Behavioral Health Supervisor 

Eighth level Behavioral Health professional serving as the departmental director in a hospital or facility setting and who is accountable for program and policy development and review. Professionals in this classification monitor and evaluate behavioral health treatment programs and services to ensure continuance of quality services and compliance with contract requirements and state program standards. Individuals in this classification lead the respective department in program development, selection, and implementation of Evidence Based Practices, and often serve on various hospital/facility committees. Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of professional and supervisory staff to ensure that work is performed according to agency and facility policies and procedures.

Requires licensure as a psychologist in Mississippi, a minimum of 6 years of experience as a licensed psychologist, and a minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience.
