Academic Assistant

Vocational teaching position accountable for aiding instructors in State facilities by assisting with the provision of cognitive or self- help skills, monitoring client behavior, and providing clerical classroom support. At this level, employees follow set lesson plans to provide classroom instruction, administer examinations, grade papers, and provide one-on-one client support (e.g. tutoring). Employees are also accountable for preparing reports based on client attendance, performance, progress, and skills assimilation.

Typically requires relevant certification and/or 1 year of experience.

Academic Vocational Teacher

Vocational Teaching professional position responsible for involving the teaching of vocational courses to students. Incumbents are responsible for preparing teaching outlines/lesson plans, instructing students, assigning lessons, administering tests, and maintaining accurate records. Other duties include sponsoring student organizations, supervising student activities and developing the communication skills of students.

Typically requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree and certification.

Academic Counselor

Professional counseling work which involves responsibility for providing educational, vocational, and/or rehabilitation counseling services to students/clients and/or preschool children and their parents. Incumbents assess problems and needs of individuals and their parents and provide guidance and assistance in meeting those needs.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, teaching certification, and additional certification as required by the hiring agency.

Academic Teacher

Academic Teaching professional position responsible for developing curriculum and lessons plans, and planning and implementing course content and methods to meet the needs of State facility clients. Employees at this level are accountable for classroom discipline and adhering to State and Federal testing guidelines and mandates. Employees may be accountable for accommodating IEPs for individuals with special needs. Employees are also accountable for preparing reports based on client attendance, performance, progress, and skills assimilation. Advanced degree Academic Teachers may be required to also serve as a school administrator.

Typically requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree and certification.
